That said, if you're going from the capture device to the TV with composite, then depending on the capabilities of the capture device, actually switching to HD might mean you won't get a display on your TV.
Basically, your capture device would not only need to capture the HD footage, but also convert progressive component to interlaced composite before outputting them to the TV.
Since they usually just use a straight pass-through, I would think there is a high chance that won't work.
But check the switches and system settings first.
