As many as three Banshees on your tail, Ghosts that know to aim UP, Shade turrets everywhere, crazy accurate Wraiths, and valleys full of Covies and Flood ground troops that can immediately pick you out of a crowd.
No other Halo game pits you against all of that alone. Halo 2? Phantom escort and massive airspace to maneuver in. Halo 3? Multiple Phantom and Hornet escorts. ODST? Yup, Phantom escort and little more than token ground troops for resistance. Even as much as a I love 'New Alexandria' in Reach, a fully-loaded Falcon can make short work of anything, short of Mythic difficulty.
I maintain that CE had the best flying sections because it required your own skill and awareness, with no "get out of danger free" button.
