It comes together with the last chapters of the Revelations season. Texas mentioned she led a team to rescue the Alpha, but that the time she reached him, the Alpha couldn't even remember his own name.

After that, it was noted how Texas was always fated to fail by her own programming, because it is all the Director remembered of her. Just when she was about to rescue the Alpha, he had been so fragmented only a husk remained.

As for Maine, now the Meta, betraying Carolina, I think he just saw it as the perfect chance to escape. The ship had crashed, some agents were bound to be wounded, and the ship was in no conditions to stop him, so... his rampage begins. At the cost of Carolina's sanity and having her feel betrayed and untrusting for the rest of her life.

I think it comes together well. It was a good episode, in my opinion. Poor Carolina, and poor Texas. Both of them tragic heroines.
