In Response To: Re: Visualizing the Halo Universe: An HBO Art Cont (Archilen) : This is a good idea, but as a little side note, it also reminded me of : something I've been meaning to address for a while now: why does everyone, : official fiction included, always mention the Rainforest Wars only when : referring to the conflicts of the 2160's? : There are several people who are known to have fought in the Rainforest Wars,
: Sure, the Rainforest Wars were significant because they happened on Earth,
: Just a little thing I've found strange, that's all. A good question. I mentioned them specifically because they've do seem to have been significant...and we know NOTHING about the conflict beyond its frontline in South America. It was my selfish way to get some fantastic artists to show me their take on it. :D I only remembered them because I re-read "The Impossible Life and Possible Death of Preston J. Cole" last week and they were mentioned in passing. ALL of the battles that have been mentioned would be great fodder for this contest. That's the beauty of books. We all read the same thing yet the picture in our minds are unique to each of us. As to why they are mentioned more fictionally, I can only guess that more recent authors wanted to keep some continuity and looked for items like that to grab onto and continue the mystique.
