In Response To: Re: Terminal Reconciliation (Archilen)

: I certainly did. Love stuff like this.

: I honestly don't like the Forerunner novels rewriting the Terminals, which
: are still one of my favorite pieces of written Halo fiction. They're so
: simple, yet so grand in scope and scale, and masterfully done - I'm not
: lying when I say I get chills from reading mere lines from them.

: The Forerunner books do have their strengths and weaknesses - I like the
: flowery, purposefully archaic style and word usage, and fact that
: Forerunner society is expanded and they aren't presented as a singular,
: uniform mass but rather people with different opinions, worldviews,
: agendas and goals, but properly meshing the story with the Terminals
: would've certainly improved them.

: It remains to be seen how Bear will maneuver in Silentium, though I agree
: that he won't be able, and will not even try, to reconcile every single
: detail with the terminals. However, I am expecting to see at least some
: events and concepts name-dropped, like the Maginot sphere which hasn't
: even been mentioned so far in the Bear novels. Or MB's battle with OB, one
: of the greatest scenes from the terminals. It might, however, be presented
: as a background event given the detailed description we already have.

: I'm also curious to see what happens with Mendicant Bias; will he go rampant
: again after the supposed "correction", or will there be another,
: rampant fragment of him somewhere which will eventually take over? I do
: wonder if MB's supposed "atonement" will be presented in a new
: light, as atonement to Forerunners rather than humanity, now that the
: Forerunner books have established the two as different species.

Well, ignoring the Forerunner = Human innuendo, I think Bias' atonement was more to all life that he nearly wiped out.

I really don't know what they're going to do with him, because corrupting him again seems pretty clunky from a fiction or narrative standpoint. I'm definitely excited for Silentium, though.
