Not to belittle all of your other very good points but I do not believe it is crass. Starting from Halo CE Cortana has been nearly naked with that painted woman appearance. It makes sense to me that the developers would gradually enhance the image quality of that character the same as all other characters. The end result may seem overtly revealing and and deliberate sexualization but nothing actually has changed. She is still a semi-naked pained female form. I have to hit the road but here is another idea. Perhaps we (mostly males) are engaged in a stronger relationship with MC through his connection with Cortana. Alternatively Cortana may be a mother figure to MC and he a son to her. The fact that she is alluring may have just been a deliberate attempt by Bungie to attract males gamers. Gotta go.
