In Response To: Re: Fails Of The Weak #62 (november 26th) (Lurono)

You're still totally missing my point.

: If you have a problem with
: Geoffs laugh or the presentation of the videos you just have to say so,
: there's no reason to call something that many others obviously enjoy
: "stupid" and "childish."

You're claiming that you think that it's totally reasonable to say that you have a problem with AH's presentation. You immediately follow that up by saying that a certain qualitative criticism is totally unreasonable, and you seem to be justifying this statement on the grounds that many people enjoy AH. There are two problems with this:
1-Whether a lot of people enjoy something is irrelevant according to your first statement, which claims that criticism is okay. So in the context of the first statement, we should just ignore that as being nonsense (we should also ignore it as nonsense on practical grounds; if every critic just agreed with everyone else, criticism as a field would be rather dull and pointless; why bother having specific critics if you'd get the same exact result from polling the masses?). So, ignoring that,
2-Your final statement's legitimacy in terms of your first statement now depends on an arguably hidden qualifier, that you only consider quantitative criticism to be reasonable. But in light of the fact that this is a discussion board and not just a pile of polls, I doubt that you would apply any such hidden qualifier.

Look, I'm not trying to jump into the argument itself here. I'm just saying that you seem to be holding two contradictory standards. First you say that criticism is okay, and then you jump on a critic for the act of criticizing. "Just say so?" He did "just say so."
