In Response To: Re: H:CE A makes me stare at the floor & twitch.*I (FyreWulff) : First things first: your critique of the new art is a valid point. Here's my : view on it. : Bungie's map designers throughout interviews from Halo 1, 2, 3, and Reach
: You've got a new console to ship your game on. Poly budget is tight because
: Even when you get to Halo 2, Bungie still kept Forerunner cheap to draw by
: Once can figure that now they have a bit more processing power, they're going
: But that's just my take on it from a developer/designer perspective. It's definitely reasonable to me that with more power, the developers should make the graphics look.... awesome, for lack of a better word. :) Halo 3 saw an increase in detail and an evolution of the classic Forerunner style in that regard. But increasing the detail, improving graphics, etc. because of better hardware -that doesn't explain simply changing the floor texture to something completely different (and lacking in Foerunner style, IMO). If anything, they could have used the original Forerunner pattern, increased the 'pop' of it, increased the resolution, even add more details to it, while keeping it the same essential style. I don't if it's possible, but they could have made slightly visible, vague real-time reflections on it, like you'd see when you get close to a polished metal. It's just the needless changes of such little details that make me worry about losing the magic of the Forerunners in this remastering. But I could be wrong, and such details, when looking at the game as a whole, might just become negligible. I'm just stating the case, hoping the artists working on the project will remember to do the Forerunners justice (to me it will be the hardest element of the art to really capture just right). :)
