Watch the supercarrier. Just look at it from the Corvette's viewpoint. Then find one of the screenshots which compares the size of the supercarrier to the Corvette, and imagine how far away that is. If the frigate went nuclear, maybe someone would've noticed. I know a lot of people on this forum have played Mass Effect, so I'll use that as an example: Normandy's stealth systems do nothing about its physical appearance, they're all about evading sensors, because unless you've got someone dedicated to looking out a telescope, you're not gonna find what you want without sensor aid. There's even a mission which illustrates that point (attacking the Heretic station; Joker comments that the Geth would only need to look out a window to see the ship [note that this is at very close range, nowhere near the distance between the vessels in Halo]) Someone would have to know that the Corvette was in trouble to be eyeballing for it, and no one knew because the ship was unable to communicate its distress.
