Unless you are specifically looking : for something, you're not likely to accidentally see it. Also, how many : windows are there in Covenant ships? With the large ones, the only windows : we've seen have been the docking bays, and Elites don't spend much time : staring out into the deep black yonder. That's not how it works - space is big and goes in all directions, which means that if something happens (especially a violent, energetic event), you're likely to see it. The mission works on rule of cool and the artificially short ranges used across all of Halo except the books.
