I'm doing mine right now. Some things people might want to know:
1) You will periodically get checkpoints while using the mass driver.
2) You can Save and Quit after checkpoints without interrupting your score or kill streak (in case you don't have 2 hours available).
3) You CANNOT shoot all of the flying vehicles. Some of them are just part of the skybox. Your shot will pass straight through them.
4) Only about 4 vehicles regularly spawn that you can kill, all them spawn on the left side. Almost all of the Phantoms can be shot down ("almost" because I did find one so far that I could not). The Phantoms spawn mid-left and are quite hard to see through the fog. If you leave them alone they will eventually cross to the right side of the screen. There is a banshee that spawns next to the phantoms. It is also hard to see and can get lost in the skybox. I have a hard time killing it regularly. There is also a banshee that spawns bottom left and is very easy to pick out and shoot.
5) If your reticle turns red you can shoot it. Phantoms don't always turn red, banshees always do. So if you're waiting for them to spawn, scan the sky to pick up a red reticle. Even if you can't see what your shooting go ahead and shoot. Basically anything in the triangle will be killed since there is a slight auto-aim to the cannon. But if you miss, try and see where your shot went (i.e. slightly right) then adjust and shoot again.
6) This boosts your Right of Way and Super Soldier. It probably boosts Splash Damage as well but I can't tell since I'm maxed on that one.
