In Response To: An Open Letter to Bungie (Schooly D) : Dear Bungie, : Can you : : take Active Camo out of any Arena Doubles games? : Active Camo and Armor Lock tend to absolutely dominate 2v2 games on open and : confined maps, respectively. Now, I can understand that you'd want to keep : Armor Lock in there because Armor Lock shares a spot with the Jetpack as : the iconic armor abilities of Halo, the kind that make the frat house go : "DUDE BRO." But I'm hoping that you don't have such an : attachment to Active Camo which has been around since Halo 1, and is just : absolutely ridiculous on maps like Asylum 2v2. : My problem with these abilities is that, on some maps in Arena Doubles, : gameplay first becomes predicated on using the armor ability. : On Countdown, it is automatically true that whenever a firefight breaks out, : SOMEONE is going to Armor Lock. Then his friend will come in and the OTHER : guy will have to Armor Lock. Then your friend will enter in and maybe the : enemy's teammate will Armor Lock, or maybe his friend will come out of : Armor Lock... who knows what will happen. The match becomes a test of : which team can coordinate their Armor Locks the best, which, while that : probably counts as some form of skill, isn't the kind of gameplay you'd : want to represent competitive Halo in a competitive playlist. : On Asylum (and Pinnacle, etc), it is automatically true that someone on the : other team, typically the sniper, is going to go with Active Camo. When : someone has Active Camo on a map which is large enough such that you can't : get a fix on their location by reading the motion tracker scrambling, any : fighting only happens when they decide it will, i.e. when they start : shooting. And when he has the Sniper Rifle, it's not so much of a fight as : it is target practice. : In larger games (8v8, 6v6, even 4v4 sometimes, although I'd also leave them : out of Arena 4v4) these abilities don't dominate gameplay as much. While : they're still used with equal frequency, the increased number of things : going on (more people, more fights, more situations, etc) sort of dilute : their importance. You are not in as much control of how/when your Armor : Ability gets used since there's just much more going on. : As I said above, I'm willing to let Armor Lock slide, both because I'm aware : of its importance and because it's the lesser evil when compared to Active : Camo in this context. A 2v2 match on maps like Asylum and Pinnacle where : you allow 1 to 4 players to have Sniper Rifles and to be invisible : constantly is just insane. : PATCH IT NOW, RIGHT NOW I absolutely HATE playing arena doubles right now. The first time I used active camo together with my partner we cleaned house. It was disgusting. I said right then that it was too overpowered. Next game, both teams used camo. Four people crouching around the map with camo. Do you have any idea how STUPID that is? Camo needs to go. Thank you for posting this, Schooly D.
