It'll be like the new Star Trek movie; a separate story in one way or the other, even if it doesn't involve time travel. Because let's face it; it would be impossible to fit a mainstream movie to the existing canon in any way, not that they'd even consider doing that. As long as they keep the movie's story technically separate from the established universe canon, I'm fine with it and probably will be able to enjoy it more than if they forcefully try to fit it into the canon. That is, if they ever really make a movie.
