I guess we tend to forget that as players, we experience what we see. Basically we only see the small slivers of much greater conflicts, like the Dlood infestation on Earth. Obviously Chief alone couldn't exterminate every Flood, so I like that this is up for a bit of interpretation in Legends. Also I like how the entire story is more or less an interpretation by Cortana. I think we tend to forget that she wasn't present for the better part of H3 so it makes sence the scenes depicted aren't exactly as we experienced them.
