: I've been looking at getting the Blackmagic Intensity Pro myself, but it's
: been a little hard to justify the cost. Do you have any advice regarding
: places to buy it (cheaper, maybe : ) ) or why you chose the Intensity Pro
: over some other options?

Well, I saw a video the Wu posted using his Intensity (an awesome flag save on Avalanche I think), and that's what basically made me decide to get it. I couldn't find any other HD recording capture card for anywhere near the price of the Intensity, so it was a no-brainer. I got it for about £189 from http://www.onevideo.co.uk, but it's now shot up to £240 (!) so I can't really recommend it there. Best thing you can do is just look around and buy it from the cheapest place you can find.

: Also, I've looked but haven't found any sort of "education"
: discount for the Intensity Pro. I'm guessing one doesn't exist, but has
: anyone heard of or found anything like that themselves?

I would guess it'd be on there website if it does :/

: Lastly, with your hard drive setup, I'm guessing then that the HD's are not
: in RAID. Is that correct?

No. I have one HDD as a main, and then the other I purchased specifically for storing and "caching" my videos. My main is a 150GB Raptor, so it's about 5ms seek time and 10,000rpm, and the secondary is 9ms 7,200rpm. Yet, in terms of frame rates and read/write rates, the secondary performs about 30-40% faster because it doesn't have to suffer with OS traffic. This means it's perfectly adequate for 720p capture, though I'd still struggle with 1080i unless I went RAID. Considering that 360 games are usually rendered at 720p and anything interlaced looks horrible IMO, I decided to skip the RAID. In the new Intensity software there is now an option for "1080 PsF" at 23, 24, and 25 frames per second, though I haven't had the chance to play around with it.
