In Response To: Halo First Impressions (Caerdwyn)

Hey why don't you go down to the ENGLISH or British!!!!
Nothing f*#(# makes them happy :) you go try to make a video game like HALO rocks and yes I know probably my game would kick HALO's ass but I am not going to go their. HALF LIFE sucked ass by the way.. was way too easy and it felt like I was on one of those rides in Disney Land.. HEY get your head straight pal and play the game all the way to the end then come back bitching.. THANK YOU!!!

: After years of waiting, yesterday I finally got to play Halo. Not on the PC
: like I had wished, but... Halo nonetheless.

: 1. The controls were a bit whacky. This isn't completely Halo's fault... I
: -do not- like the X-Box controller. It's huge, it's bulky, and I just
: couldn't get used to it, even after an hour of playing. A D-Pad, two
: analogs, a bucketload of buttons, triggers on the top.. it felt like the
: old Atari Jaguar controllers: too huge.

: 2. Split-screen multiplayer sucks. If you have a 40-inch HDTV to hook this up
: to, maybe you'd be in flavor country, but I was stuck with the X-Box demo
: station monitor: a 19-inch Magnavox (or something). Resolution was low,
: natural for a standard TV, plus my view was halved (split-screen after
: all).. my gaming session resulted in me blindly shooting at anything glowy
: and moving, as I could barely make out enemies.

: 3. The jeep: no traction. This thing slides and glides like a snowmobile, not
: an all-terrain vehicle. I can understand a little slip-slidin' action on
: dirt, but not when I was driving down into the first level's "parking
: garage" and over the holographic bridge. Using the Big Gun on the
: back was fun, though. I especially liked when the AI passenger kept
: bitching that I was stealing his kills ;)

: 4. The AI seemed pretty smart, but not genius calibre.

: 5. Cortana sounded a bit too 'Gone With the Wind' now and then, but not too
: bad. The music and other sounds were quite tasty, from what I could hear
: (volume was set WAY low).

: 6. Visual effects were nice, including the flashlight, energy blasts from
: Covvie weapons, and the 'sun streaming through the trees' effect. Was
: working with a small screen, however, so it detracted a bit from the
: greatness of it
: all.

: 7. I liked the ongoing, Half-Life-like story (where you watch NPCs move the
: story along around you). I didn't notice any involvement by your
: character, but for all I know my guy could've been chatting away.. the
: sound was very low on this demo unit.

: 8. The new Bungie logo made me think of Anthrax at first. EEP! :P

: That's about it. I wasn't -completely- impressed... it's a good game, a solid
: title for the X-Box, but it seemed to lack a bit of the "wow
: power" that I got from the first Macworld demo, back in '99. The
: missions I played on the X-Box seemed very tight and confined, whereas a
: lot of old Halo stuff focused on very large, open areas. I'm still waiting
: for the PC version.
