The Marine on the cover of the Halo novel looks disturbingly like a game engine render. Now, I'm as proud and happy as anyone that Halo's engine looks good enough to be used on the cover of a book, but still, you're gonna be able to tell that it came from a relatively low-poly 3d environment--that is to say, a game engine.

People like to believe, and they like even more for others to believe, that they're mature and sophisitcated. Are they really going to buy a book so obviously based on a computer game? I'm a genuine Halo Wonk and I'd be embarrassed to hand that to a cashier.

But then, cashiers scare me. (I'd put one of those winky-smiley emoticons here, but I hate 'em. Emoticons, I mean.)
