In Response To: I don't see why... (stan) : For one, since when has Halo been about "realism" (real for the : context in which it's set of course)? Remember, Spartans can survive a : near direct blast from a grenade, but a point-blank shotgun blast to the : toe kills them. Doesn't seem very realistic to me. My point was that a third-person game with ODSTs would probably have to be more realistic, if only for the fact that you are an ordinary Marine in a suit, not a 7 1/2 foot tall genetically modified superhuman trained for combat almost as soon as you could walk with a half ton of armor encasing every square inch of your body. : And anyways, lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots and lots of
Fair point, but in most of those games, the main enemies don't have shields that take half a clip to take down, unless you just want to fight Grunts. And Hunters would be really beastly. Come to think of it, that'd be pretty awesome, seeing hunters as the nearly unstoppable death machines they are supposed to be and not the giant walking targets they are in the "main" games. Halo 1 Hunters, lol. : know what the covenant can do? Well, maybe their fighting capabilities
Covenant tech is imitative and really hasn't changed much, minor retconning aside. See: any Brute tech and the Jackal on the ship the Spartans blew up in FoR that had the same equipment as the Jackals in the games do, 20-30 odd years later. : ODSTers are pretty well armed and armored. You wouldn't (or so it seems
Technically, yes, but the scale goes like this: Spartan >Average Elite>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>ODST>Marine>Grunt. ODST's are still children compared to Spartans, Elites, and especially Brutes and Hunters. A jackal is about the same size as a normal human, maybe even a little larger, and they are pretty small and weak compared to the player. : Finally, why couldn't there be any vehicles? I don't understand this one at
I didn't say no vehicles, but they'd have to be overhauled so that they are more realistic to fit the overall theme of the game; currently, Halo vehicles are pretty arcadey. I can slam into a wall at 40 MPH in a Warthog and drive away; try doing that in real life or even a semi-realistic driving sim. Grenade flipping would also be a no-no. Plus, drivable vehicles in general don't really fit well in "gritty" war games, except as scripted sequences. And before anyone says Battlefield, those vehicles are about as fun as sticking a finger in a meat grinder. Especially the planes. Ugh.
