Near the end of Halo 3's events, when stating that : Chief blows High Charity to defeat Gravemind, you then jump to activating : the new ring without any mention of the survival of Gravemind (or some : form of him)... It kind of sounds like they're just doing it for the fun : of it or something. :) The Mars armament thing is depicted in the first part of Halo Arms Race by Neil Blomkamp. The Afghanistan battle takes place in the second and third parts. Afghanistan isn't mentioned per say, but if you look at the coordinates on the screen, you'll find out that it's located somewhere in eastern Afghanistan, very close to Pakistan. And I tried to keep the events of Halo 3 sketchy. The Timeline is based mainly on important events, not entire walkthroughs of the game. Although this is a detail I omitted.
