: your reply to my last post just gave me an idea, could you work out the arks : approx size from the hologram at the cartographer. You can clearly see a : halo in the hologram, so could that be the starting point for scale? No you can't. When I originally tried to use the Cartographer hologram to find an estimate of the Ark's scale, I could only come up with about 4 Halo diameters, which is less than half the value I now see it to be. The Ark hologram is likely an approximation, not an accurate engineering diagram. (Similarly, the hologram of the exterior of the Library on Cmdr. Keyes' holotank on In Amber Clad was not a perfect representation of the actual Library seen in the bacground matte painting in-game, so there....holograms aren't perfect. (Don't let Cortana hear me say that!) The hologram of Halo from when you turn on the Cartographer on the island in Halo 1 was woefully out of scale with itself and was only meant to be a representation of the ring. Interestingly, the hologram in the security center on the island though was made of the actual 3D mesh of that part of the installation, so it's about perfect in its look. But then, instead of lookling like a nifty hologram, it really does look like an untextured 3D mesh. So, long story short, no the Cartographer hologram of the Ark is not a good basis for figuring out the Ark's size (unless it looks drastically different if an overhead shot were possible.)
