The ladders are death traps. You get snapped to it and there still isn't an animation for it. One of the great consistencies of the trilogy, I guess. =P

Teleporters are death traps and cheap methods of transportation. If you were attacking someone and they just pop into the tele, they're gone and the tide of the battle is turned. Suddenly you're put into a position of ambush and not knowing of what is on the other side. The exits become camping zones because it's a fast way across the map and users must be prepared for the unknown that is the otherside. Are you going into a volley of grenades, a fuel rod gun, rockets, a sword, shotguns, or empty space? Not to mention in Halo 3 it seems practically impossible to telefrag people anymore, so exits are far easier to obstruct. The basics of the mancannon (and other lifts) removes most of, if not all, of those issues.

Shield doors are nice because they give you a temporary relief from combat.

You could always add teleporters in with Forge, too. You can't necessarily add a mancannon into the map, though.
