I won't write it off out-of-hand, but I doubt it's true.

At most I suspect it's a garbled version of internal discussions (and anything "heard from a friend" is bound to be garbled) on Bungie's autonomy within Microsoft's corporate structure. I *could* see this end up the same way the Pixar foo-farah turned out at Disney, without the drama of actually threatening to leave but with the conglomerate granting the "little studio that could" the independance it needs to keep hatching golden geese.

-- Steve would bet on "totally bogus" if he had to place a bet right now, though.
