In Response To: Re: Question about the ending *SP* (tsuranuku)

I was thinking the same thing upon initially finishing the campaign, but I think I like it better this way. There are a number of things that I really figured were going to happen to the Chief.

1) They might show his face at the end.
2) He would die. Heroically.
3) We would actually see the forerunner. I remember DISTINCTLY reading a review that said we would encounter a new enemy. Perhaps that was the "new" types of flood, I dunno. I just figured Truth would open up the ark, and Forerunner would just come pouring out of that white light, as a bunch of flying laser-mounted sharks. j/k. No really, I expected the ol runnies to show up at some point.

None of these three things happened, but I totally wasn't disappointed in the least. At first I was like "eeeehhhhh" and the more I thought about it, the more perfect the whole ending became. We lost characters near and dear to us (in Johnson, Keys, um Truth and 343), which at least in me created this kind of foreshadowing of the Chief's demise. Keep in mind- I was CONVINCED they would kill him off. When he didn't end up dying, I was actually really relieved. Then the cutscene with Lord Hood and Arbies totally made me think he was dead, and I accidentally skipped the credits. I had to go back and beat the warthog run (which I totally didn't mind. I enjoyed even more than the first) to see the ending.
The chief isn't dead, and neither is his trusty "shield" and "sword"- Cortana. So we get this bittersweet ending that he is out there, somewhere, but somehow lost... waiting until he is needed again. Someone said something about King Arthur, and the more I think about it, the more the analogy fits.
So while I really would like to know what happens to the Chief as closure- I don't really want to mess with him as that soldier/arthur figure, waiting somewhere out there until we need him.

: That's what I thought too. Actually after watching the ending after the
: credits I felt much better about H3 in general. Bungie isn't going to make
: a 4th game, so I just hope we can find out what happens to Master Chief in
: a book or something.
