In Response To: Re: I thought I'd pick up Ringworld to read... (Herotodus) : I decided, this being the year the first Halo game storyline wraps up, I : should read a few of the key pieces of literature that helped inspire the : game. : I finished Ringworld last week, and I'm sorry to say I am unimpressed. Mainly : because the name Louis Wu is mentioned in the book approximately four : times per page. For a 300+ page book, which concentrates on a story : involving Louis Wu and only 3 other major characters in its first 200 or : so pages, the name's mention gets awful annoying. No offense to our : estimed website manager. I blame your cognitive dissonance. You're not expecting to see the name Louis Wu in print, so it's more jarring to you than it otherwise would be. The book is unexceptional as a novel, but as a work of science fiction it's pathbreaking. I mean, heck, Niven invented the concept of a Ringworld, which is pretty outstanding.
