In Response To: Spartan Laser Replica (CitizenErased27) : Ok firstly, Im a long long long time lurker, please have mercy. i was always : very intimidated by the layout and operation style of this forum. But now : i feel is the time to actually contribute and share with you guys what i : am planning to "attempt." lol. I am turning to you guys, the : knowledge bank, the experts, for some assistance i need with the : developmental stages of project im starting. Well here goes: (12:29am : 5-26) : Okay, so ive decided that I am officially going to attempt a somewhat CRAZY
: i have a couple options of what kind of medium I'm gonna go with. first thing
:
: so as you can see, some screencaps with a capture card would really really
: it also appears that the front part which covers the barrel opens and closes
: you can also see here the shape of the main section I discussed earlier. : Another Halo modeler! I intend to do some full-size Halo weapons at some point as well. Have to get the ships out of the way first. I don't know how much balsa wood would cost in the quantity you would need. If you're not planning on coating it with fiberglass or styrene plastic, then what? Balsa is a dream to carve with, but that's also its drawback..it's so delicate a fingernail run across it will leave a dent. You could easily damage what you've built quite easily. There's a presswood product called MDF that might suit your building needs..most hardware stores (Home Depot, for instance) carry it. It's easy to cut and carve and is quite solid. If it's within your skill set, learning fiberglass casting would eliminate the easy-damage problem, and maintain a good solid-like structure, and not be excessively heavy. You could also make it like I have been constructing the Pillar of Autumn and use plexiglass and styrene to make the shapes you need. The Spartan Laser has enough rounded surfaces, that making a vaccuformer to make rounded plastic pieces would be a benefit, but may be outside your skillset at this time. It's something I intend to do to build some Covenant weapons, with all their rounded surfaces. Best of luck on the project...looks like an ambitious one!
