Torture wasn't necessary

In Response To: How is 343 GS tortured? (Jillybean) : Having established that he's pretty much indestructible, I have to ask - does : he reveal stuff willingly in Halo 2? Why not? I don't think it has occurred to him that a race would want to activate the system when it is not necessary. And even if that were the case, in his opinion activating it *is* necessary-- the Flood have escaped! Who did it is probably irrelevant at that point. : I always look at that cutscene and think that he's been tortured. It's hard : to stick emotion into a lightbulb, but his colour is dimmer and he is : 'facing' downwards. Both of which made me think they've somehow forcibly : extracted information from him, the equivalent of torture for an AI. I don't think torture was necessary. I think he's programmed to answer questions. We've seen he's done so even when it was not to his advantage. What if, for instance, he had lied to the Chief and Cortana in the TB cutscene, and forced the Chief to choose? I think he is programmed to believe that, given full command of the facts, everyone would agree the Halo system is the best/only possible method of dealing with the Flood, and act appropriately. : But how? : And if he's not 'tortured', does he willing reveal information to a race he : KNOWS released the Flood? The one thing he is charged with preventing? I don't think he's programmed to enact punitive measures against Flood-releasers to the extent of withholding from them information directly regarding how to activate the system's anti-Flood weapon. It'd be like cutting off your nose to spite your face-- yes, you guys released the Flood, and there's a weapon that addresses the problem, but since you guys are the ones who released them, I'm not going to tell you how it works, so :P
