I see where you're coming from, but I think that's just because only 1 (circular bit) of the 3 parts that up the Marathon symbol is actually lit. And yes, it does look much more... melancholy. I wouldn't go so far as to say it was 2402 Penitent Tanget. He looked more "infected" than "dead." This Monitor just looks deactivated. Or dying, at the very least.
