...and hence the disappointment and frustration all the greater when your teammate turns on you and kills you, laughing and typing in juvenile insults.

Nothing beats a good team game. You cannot just go out onto the Internet and find one; most likely you will end up playing against selfish immature fools who will completely ruin your gameplay experience. And forming clans requires much more time and dedication to a game than I or most gamers are either able or willing to give.
