Update (was Re: Cinematics in games)

In Response To: Cinematics in games (and Halo 2!) on MSN (Anton P. Nym (aka Steve))

: Well, looks like MSN's political/commentary site has picked up some tips from
: HBO...

: Though they decry the idea of extensive cutscenes (and hold up as a *bad*
: example the boast that Halo 2's cutscenes add up to a full movie) they
: really liked the immersive gameplay, as well as abusing game physics...

: -- Steve thinks Louis should brace for impact... there's a link to HBO's
: "Warthog Jump" mirror page in the article. But congrats to RG!

I posted a quick response on the weekend, and the authour of the piece replied that one sense of his analysis didn't come through in the article; cutscenes do have a place in games, but they're becoming over-used. Read for yourself (and my note will show up there too, if you click up the chain)

-- Steve should say that the authour's response was kinda neat... and that he posts on Slate almost as much as Steve posts here. :)
