I recently went to Gamestars Live and have written this short write-up. Gamestars Live : The Halo 2 Experience By OpeningAct After 3 hours of repetive and tiring travelling, swapping between car, train and subway, I finally arrived at the Hall of the Gods that was the ExCel exhibition centre in London and for the next 3 days, the home of Gamestars Live and Halo 2. I quickly made a b-line for the Halo 2 booth, bypassing Prince of Persia 2 and Splinter Cell 3. It was easily the best looking booth at the show, with palm trees, a bunker ( which the Xbox's were inside ) and three SPARTANs parading their armor. I immediately got in line, noticing a sign that read 60 minutes from here. I sighed and turned my attention to a large screen repeatably showing the E3 demo. The sign didn't lie. An hour later the masterful overlords ( freckled teenagers ) let me into the lair of Halo 2. I can never watch the E3 demo again now though, at least without going on a rampant rampage with a plasma sword, leaving thousands dead in my wake. The game style was Slayer, first to fifteen, the level Zanzibar. I put my hands on the sweaty controller as the game began. Unfortunately everyone started on the beach and what ensued was one of the biggest Halo fire fights I have ever seen. Within seconds, vehicles were flying across the scene and SPARTANs toting SMG's and Battle Rifles firing wildly. Narrowly dodging a flying Ghost, I got out my battle rifle and zoomed in. Three headshots later, and I was in the lead. The Battle Rifle is extremely effective from distance, but close up, it's utterly useless as I soon learned. Once I'd respawned I chose my second option, dual-wielded SMGs. I have to say they really do make up for the lack of the assault rifle, they can really do some damage. I quickly regained the lead and fed up with WW3, I headed up to Zanzibar's numerous structures. A few guys followed. They were my lab rats for the needler and the plasma rifle. The needler is as effective as the SMG, and an instant fave. A quick burst of fire and your enemy's on the floor twitching. The plasma rifle on the other hand, I am sad to say does not retain it's former glory. Whereas in the first game, a prolonged burst of fire will stun the enemy, this has changed in H2. Now, it's rather useless. Finally I found my favorite weapon from the first game, the human sniper rifle. And that's how I won the game. The whole beach was visible from the position of the sniper rifle and quickly my score tallied to fifteen, courtesy of the fools still fighting on the beach. The game ended and I yelled 'Woohoo!', much to the disgust of the rest of the people in the bunker. We were instantly filed out, but before I asked one of the temporary Bungie employees whether I won a prize. He laughed before saying 'nope'. I left slightly miffed, but with a satisfying feeling that last throughout the day like a good drug ( no one can prove anything! ). Overall, Halo 2 is going to be the best game ever, but this version was slightly clunky. In the end it just left me hungry for more. Bring on Novenber 11th, I'm ready for you yanks! | |
