The whole process actually works pretty well for frame grabs of the rotating hog at
http://www.bungie.net/Games/Halo/Gallery.aspx?Gallery=Renders&page=2 .
However, I've found that the cross-eyed technique adds very little to the perceived depth of a rotating object. It just gives you a headache as you struggle to maintain focus, especially with the "army of one" shot. Stereoscopic Halo PC screens are still a good option, I've done it myself, but I'm not going to pursue this animated stuff anymore.
What would be cool is if we had two players aiming at exactly the same spot take a screen at the same time TOD style. Alternately, they could just turn on fraps while looking at the same spot and then grab the choice pairs. That way we could get some cool action shots.
