Re: Halo Box | |

In Response To: Halo Box (Redox) You gotta understand how this works. Maybe you won't understand - I don't and I've been trying to figure it out for years - but at least you'll learn. ;-) Bungie goes to these conventions where buyers for software stores congregate. (This happens at the higher-profile shows like MacWorld and E3 too, but more often it's at one of these lesser-known shows or a one-on-one meeting.) Bungie says "Here's our cool box which is distinct from every other box on the shelf, which we spent two months developing and thousands of dollars to mock up.* We think it will look cool enough that people walking through your store will pick it up, and once they do the pictures and text on the back will convince them to buy the game. It's functional art. It'll fly straight off your shelves and into their hearts. Whaddaya say?" And the buyers reply "It's shaped funny. And it's a little big. If you make it rectangular, with the same dimensions as the other boxes on our shelves, we'll think about it. Until then, put us down for zero units." Of course, to paraphrase Orson Welles, working creatively within those boundaries is what makes it "art." Anyway, it's a little early to be thinking of what the Halo box will look like but I promise we'll make it cool for you. :-) -Matt * Most buyers consider a product vaporware unless you give them an empty box they can take home. Strange, eh? |
