Abandonware?

: hey I wasn't hitting at you sorry I was just saying, I'm sure there are a lot
: of people who would like to see and read it but I was not sure on the
: legalities of just making it publicly viewable. Now I'm sure no one at
: Bungie would mind if anyone like Hamish knows if it would be okay I'll
: give out the address for it or send it to Hamish it isn't the best scan,
: some pages are a little squint but totally readable.

This is point of view: there's a new generation interested in Marathon and they're having trouble because it's not longer being sale. Hamish is doing the best he can pointing out every single marathon-related bid on ebay, but that's not enough. I wonder if it's time to declare Marathon and PiD abandonware, because that way they can be distributed freely along with related items as the scrapbook.

A good example of what I'm saying is Macintosh Garden, a legal site where you can download the full version of games that fall under this category. The games are distributed under the term: "Do not download a game if you don't own a license for it," but this is a legal contradiction: if I already own the game, why would I want to download it? Yes, you can say that you lost the floppies, etc. But the truth is different.

I think Bungie had taken one step in this direction when they didn't opposed to the re-release of Marathon: Resurrection and more recently, Marathon Arena and M1A1. But if we don't ask them, we're going to stay in this dilemma forever. Meanwhile I'm enjoying for free such classics as Zork, Flashback, Wolfenstein 3D, Sensory Overload, Loderunner, Prince of Persia, Alone In The Dark, and even Doom 2. Some of these games are contemporary or even newer than the Marathon games.

I have no problem paying for these games, but here in Panama it's hard enough finding a retailer that sells Mac software at all. And buying them over the internet is not a good option either: I didn't buy the Mac Action Sack because the shipping and handling costed twice the price of the sack! I bet I'm not the only one on this situation.
