In Response To: Re: Why didn't the colonists do a runner? (elmer) : what [it] could mean when durandal said that is that the 'unreliable stasis
Were they designed for Pfhor use? Durandal's Bobs were originally loaded into the stasis chambers by the Pfhor themselves. They're slavers, remember, so their stasis chambers are probably designed for keeping captives quiet rather than for the use of the Pfhor crew. (Stasis was necessary for the crew of the Marathon only because its journey took 300 years; there' s no reason for the Pfhor to go into stasis when they can travel from star to star in weeks.) So I imagine the chambers are designed for generalized use by a wide variety of species. Now, certainly the chambers aren't optimized for human use. Still, the very fact that they'd need to be optimized that precisely suggests that stasis technology is at least somewhat tricky to design and operate correctly. --SiliconDream |
