In Response To: War between Icarus and Thermopylae. (Friend of a Friend)

: Regarding the war in 2194 between the asteroid colonies of Icarus and
: Thermopylae, there is an asteroid named "Icarus" but I've been
: unable to find its position relative to earth. Just out of curiosity, I'd
: like to know how far away it is.

the value "distance: 1,3681 au" tells us that the asteroid is located just beyond mars.
but!!! the value "perihelion: 0,18676 au" tells us that when the asteroid is closest to the sun it is at the same distance as mercury.
nasa's homepage states that: "1566 Icarus - Highly eccentric Earth-crossing orbit."
it's name "1566 Icarus" simply means: "the 1566th largest asteroid, Icarus" (so it's rather small, 1.6 km across)

i'll dig out some more facts later today as i get home to my books
