Agreed; whose bright idea was it to give one extension to about 2^2^256 different proprietary codecs, anyway? I download an avi file, expecting QT6 Preview to be able to read it, or one of my other dozen or so codecs from various places that play avi files, but no! It's something completely different!

Anyway, avis aren't that great; use something more sane, like Sorenson or MPEG.
