: I would have to agree with this... If there is a "sweet spot" of
: level complexity, Rubicon is somewhere on the far side. And
: it really doesn't help that you are working without terminal maps
: or directions most of the time.

And when there are maps, they're often wrong.

Scott and Chris, for the most part your levels are excellent - exceptional in many cases. There are a few where it's not clear where you need to go, including the Frog levels coming up in the Volunteers' series. It took me hours to figure that one out the first time. To be fair, there are plenty of instances in Infinity that have the same problem - do Naw Man He's Close and One Thousand Thousand Slimy Things come to mind?

Rubicon does involve a lot of exploration, which is a good thing as far as I'm concerned. Some would find This hurts less than... uhh... way to obscure, but I found it to be fun. I like exploring, and particularly looking for eye candy and secrets, so I would do this anyway. The one level that totally stumped me was I'd Rather be a Lutfisk, which sent me to the Spoiler Guide after hours of trying to find the way out. We're just not used to moving vertically in Marathon, which you can only do upward in submerged levels such as this one. Overall, I think that the Rubicon team did a very good job of reaching the right balance, but I tend to favor exploration over action, which is a very personal taste.
