In Response To: Help with uplink switches in Forge! (Ernie)

: Ah! Dear GOD Forge is driving me insane...

: I'm trying to , eventually: -have this uplink trigger a door (platform) which
: ive designated 'Tag 1' (both on the switches end, and in the platforms
: options).

You will have to do the following (not sure how much of this Ernie said):
-Set the chip switch to the tag of the platform.
-Make sure nothing attached to the tag is initially active.

I can't really think of anything beyond that, I've always found wire switches harder and more annoying.

Another annoying aspect of chip switches is that they cannot be tested in forge. However, it should work if you build a tag switch that works and then change its type to chip and go test it in the game.

: Any, while I have the forums attention (I hope): -How do I trigger a effect
: as seen in Rubicon where: *as a 'page' in a terminal is 'turned', it
: causes a juggernaut explosion?

You will have to use the undocumented Tag terminal section type. I don't actually know how to do this, but I bet there are tutorials in the Archives.

: -How, also, and what formats [compression, etc] are needed to put a movie in
: place of a chapter screen, or ending screen?

Plain MI only supports a movie run before the first level, in place of a first chapter screen (place it in the MI folder and name it Movie). Aleph One is supposed to support movies played at other points, but knowing A1 chances are it doesn't work at the moment.

: damn, I wish there was a way to view the terminal TEXT (how it looks prior to
: merging a level)... it would answer alot of my questions about terminal
: editing. :)

Are you using the app Hex! to write terminals? If not, drop everything you are doing and get it immediately.
