Reverse engineer the data files | ||

I'm a C# programmer looking to increase my knowledge on Marathon and I've got a hex code editor. I would like to know how the Marathon trilogy binary files are read and what data they hold. The reason is I need the information with a MIT license to open source it with the Unity game engine. GPL license code can't be open source with Unity because I don't have the source code for Unity. Is there any information on the data files already that I can use with a MIT license?
