I did notice the melee attacks myself when I played as well last year, though I can't remember if I mentioned it my own writeups.

I'm typing this at My Own Private Lh''owon where my internet is limited, but I should be able to post chapter 2 stage 3 and chapter 3 stage 1 by Sunday or Monday when I get home. I missed the secret where you can get into the hanger though when I played: I only became aware of its existence when the Rampancy boys did their stream.
