In Response To: Re: Copyrighted soundtrack for Marathon 1 & Redux (Shining Raven) : I believe Alexander Seropian has expressed that he does not want the CD
I am fine with the Craig remixes in Redux and the quicktime ones in M1 vanilla but even so, abandonware is abandonware. I highly doubt Alex cares at all what anyone does with music he made for a dead CD copy of a 25 year old game on a dead OS now, so long as he at least gets credit where its due. He hasn't gone after youtube videos of the CD tracks now has he? Besides, it seems very unfair on Alex for nobody to see his good work, just because nobody is using the old hardware anymore. Sure we have the MIDI songs but gold like his CD tracks or even games like Marathon itself, PID or even Minotaur should NEVER be lost to time. It's not like I'm selling the tracks or trying to claim them as my own, I'm just sharing an experiment with how the engine works that I was trying out and I give credit to the original artists in a text file too as well as the original post. Nobody actually has to use the CD tracks, I'm just giving them the option if they ever decide to. I even say as much in the text file, encouraging users to try the games with the default tracks first and see if they like the vanilla ones over the music mod. As for the subject of Abandonware, both of the points made in those two links apply to game soundtrack as well: https://youtu.be/68zZZn8wy4E?list=PL6PNZBb6b9Ltgl6WM5rn2pjrXd_qdit2S&t=906 https://youtu.be/tYotAMLOtf4?list=PL6PNZBb6b9Ltgl6WM5rn2pjrXd_qdit2S&t=1130
