Mac stuff that was made before OSX just doesn't work on OSX due to the radical difference in system architecture. It's sort of analogous to needing DOSBox to run pre-windows 95 games, but classic mac was more than just a command shell, so you need a mac rom and a virtual hard drive to run the classic OS in an emulator (the aforementioned basilisk II and sheepshaver) to even be able to play the games on it. It's why the recent OSX remake of PiD was kind of a big deal, as without a magical Aleph One fix, that was how you had to play PiD (and it still doesn't have the map and gold room glitches, so it still might be the better way to play it).
