I'm the guy who came up with the whole "Destiny is the inverted story of Pathways into Darkness" in the first place (and I also made a reddit post predicting the Hive worm narrative months before the Taken King came out), so I feel like I should probably stop speculating about a game that I don't actually own.
And I guess the other side of the coin is that I kind of don't want there to be canon connections between Destiny and Marathon (or PiD for that matter). I just don't think that the modern Bungie (the one that treats employees unethically like Marty O'donnell and Joe Staten, and releases a half finished game full price) could do the old series any justice.
