: ... I really don't get your last line at all; if it's in the story, it IS
: part of the story (individual interpretations, obviously, not so much).
: Unless you just want to reject parts of the story, which is something I
: can sympathize with, but it does make debate and speculation a bit futile
: if the key parts of the actual canon are being discounted.
: Anyway, I don't really want to make it a huge argument; I've just been a bit
: baffled by getting such negative responses about reasonable and on-topic
: speculation.
I think there's a couple people disagreeing with you, but I don't see it as negative. I can certainly tell you that I have no negative feelings towards you or your opinions.
As for my last line... it's like easter eggs. Just because an easter egg appears in the story doesn't mean it's part of the canonical story you're supposed to take seriously.
Like, in Destiny there's a scannable pod and most people interpret Ghost's dialogue to mean that the Master Chief is in the pod. That doesn't mean Master Chief is a canonical part of Destiny's story; it's just an easter egg. I remember in Halo Reach there's an underground room you can get to that's an homage to the real world Halo fan community; but that doesn't mean that the real world fan community is part of the Halo universe. That's sort of what I mean when I say something can be in the story but not part of the story.
