Someone is still overseeing/vetting the writing before it gets made part of the game, presumably. Not being an employee myself, I'm not sure who or what the exact chain of command is there, but if it's in the story, it's canon and fair game for speculation until proven decisively otherwise. (And how often does stuff get decisively unproven around here, anyway?)
