Depending on the time remaining post boss fight, you may end up needing to use the Reset cheat. It's not a great strategy to use that one at any time unless you really want to avoid a game over, but it could come in handy for those extra gemstones.

At least Bungie were kind enough to include this command in the game for beginners as long as they knew the "code". (+RESET)
