Perhaps I'm wrong, but I think you might be focusing on the wrong part of that quote, "you and the humans", rather than "the humans you care so much for". It probably would be over-analyzing to use just that first bit to distinguish the SO from other humans, but the second part seems to definitely set him apart.
As for denting the control panel in the Mirata(?), I always assumed it was powered armor of some sort - how else could he run so fast, or drop from great heights without taking damage?
