: But why Durandal? And why the rush? If the W'rkncacnter takes a billion+
: years to be released then the Jjarro station could be activated at your
: leisure. Instead of popping off to another timeline the instant somebody
: activates the trih xeem.
: There are some hints that the release of the W'rkncacnter was chaotic enough
: to split the timelines, but in such a strange way. Both the Infinity
: Manual and Ne Cede Malis describe a timeline that doesn't split from
: Marathon 2 at the point of the W'rkncacnter release, but much much
: earlier.
: The more I think about it, the more I'll stand behind my "GK was
: unsatisfied with M2" theory. It seems like such a canon-redaction to
: me, going back to the beginning of Marathon 2 and doing it over again in a
: more interesting way.
: No wait I changed my mind.
Fair questions and points one and all :). In all of the failed endings in Infinity it does seem to be not long into the future that things go terribly awry. Another school of thought that I'm starting to like again at this point is that of the M2 final screen taking place after we fix things in Infinity, between Aye Mak Sicur and the Infinity final screen, which is of course, a lot later. From All Roads Lead to Sol... we teleport to Ne Cede Malis? It is a good point of introduction to the Infinity concept, having as we already have evidence of a new history from the manual, and this clearly isn't what we remember of recent events.
Perhaps along the lines of Quantum Leap, we are just "striving to put right what once went wrong."
