I always got the feeling that it was the conflicting struggle between the W'rkncacnter and Toth (or Durandal+Toth). Durandal/Toth reaching backwards through time to guide you and make sure things turned out okay. Maybe the events of Infinity are a big ol' self fulfilling prophetic loop.
