One could reason that Durandal didn't want such a powerful piece of equipment falling into the hands of the Pfhor. Then again, the Pfhor never seemed to take much interest in any of our weapons in either the original Marathon or Marathon 2, so that doesn't really make much sense.
One could also reason that Durandal was having trouble teleporting stuff into the right places, a theme we see again and again throughout the series. However, that would fail to explain why he teleported in the Fusion Pistol as we were reaching that exact spot.
What's even weirder is that there is a 2x Shield Recharger embedded into the wall nearby. Why the heck is that there?
There are obviously many things which we do not understand, and may never be able to.
